Amazon Prime’s Coach Prime Docuseries Launches This December

Coach Prime Docuseries dives into Deion Sanders’ college football team

There’s been plenty of college football documentaries to date but the latest one is coming to Amazon Prime Video in the Coach Prime docuseries. Co-produced by Prime Video Sports, Coach Prime will be covering NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders’ collegiate football team at Jackson State University, a public Black university in Jackson, Mississippi.

Debuting in December, the trailer for the Coach Prime docuseries shows Coach Sanders inspiring his team with a speech following the Jackson Water Crisis this past summer, which left Sanders and his Jackson State University Tigers to relocate to a nearby facility.

“Just because we changed locations, y’all act like we changing destinations,” says Sanders in the exclusive clip. “It’s not. We’re the same, but we put you into a whole new environment and you act totally different. I’m seeing a whole bunch of followers and no leaders. Cause true leaders take responsibility for their team and helps them achieve goals.”

The documentary is executive produced by former NFL player Michael Strahan, Constance Schwartz-Morini, and Fred Anthony Smith along with SMAC Entertainment and led by showrunner Michael Gleaton of DG West, Inc. The series will “follow the JSU Tigers at practice and games, in the locker room, off the field, and in the community, amid the team’s quest for an HBCU National Championship during a season unlike any other,” according to the press release.

The Coach Prime docuseries will also cover the Jackson water crisis and Sanders’ larger goal of leveling the playing field in college sports by driving more attention to HBCUs.

“We’re excited to welcome Coach Prime to the Prime Video family,” said Marie Donoghue, Amazon’s VP of Global Sports Video. “Deion Sanders is such an inspiring leader, both on and off the field, and we look forward to taking fans inside Coach Prime’s world as the exciting season unfolds at Jackson State University.”
