The four-part HBO Sports SHAQ documentary arrives November 23

A new HBO Sports SHAQ documentary will focus on the life and career of basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal. The first episode of the four-part docuseries will air on HBO Max and features a number of interviews with Shaq, in which he discusses the start of his career and the rise to being a basketball icon.

Directed by Robert Alexander, the HBO Sports SHAQ documentary tells the story of the legendary Lakers champion. The HBO description of the series states that it “chronicles Shaq’s ascent to superstardom, as a dominant force who won four NBA championships, league MVP honors, and changed the game. It also encompasses his life off the court, from his upbringing in a military family to his deepest personal relationships and prosperous broadcasting and business careers.”

A number of prominent NBA players will be featured, including Shaq’s Orlando Magic teammate Penny Hardaway, Miami Heat teammate Dwyane Wade, and many more with Dennis Scott, Brian Shaw, Derek Fisher, and Rick Fox in the mix. Also included are former head coaches Phil Jackson and Pat Riley and former Los Angeles Lakers General Manager Jerry West.

Shaq’s family will be making an appearance, such as his mother Dr. Lucille O’Neal who will speak on Shaq’s personal life. His brothers Jamal and Lateefah Harrison, and his kids Taahirah, Shareef, and Myles are also featured.

“We kept this documentary real from the start, and I do feel like it is the most honest look into my life and career up until this point,” said Shaq in a statement. “This process allowed me to reflect publicly in a way I haven’t before, and I’m so proud of the work everyone has done to put it all together.”

The HBO Sports SHAQ documentary debuts on HBO Max on November 23, and with new episodes scheduled to air each following week to conclude its four-part series.
