New Devotion Official Trailer Highlights The First Black Pilot In The U.S. Navy

American fighter pilot Jesse Brown is celebrated in the Devotion official trailer

Sony Pictures have released the new Devotion official trailer that depicts one of the toughest battles fought in the Korean War, the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. Based on the Devotion novel, the film covers the story of Jesse Brown, the first black pilot in the U.S. Navy.

Brown and his wingman Lieutenant Thomas Hudner first meet when deploying to the Korean War. The bond between Brown and Hudner endures during a period of segregation, particularly after an incident when one of their planes was shot down over enemy lines.

The full length new Devotion official trailer shows Brown played by actor Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country) and fellow aviator Tom Hudner, played by Glen Powell (Top Gun Maverick). Also casted are Spencer Neville, Christina Jackson, Serinda Swan, Thomas Sadoski, Daren Kagasoff, Joseph Cross, Serinda Swan, and Joe Jonas.

J.D. Dillard, an accomplished American filmmaker who has previously directed the movies Judy Goose, Sleight, and Sweetheart, is the director of Devotion with Molly Smith, Rachel Smith, Thad Luckinbill, and Trent Luckinbill as the producers. The screenplay is written by Jonathan A. H. Stewart and Jake Crane, while the film is based on Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice, the book written by Adam Makos.

The film will first premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2022. Its official release date was initially scheduled for October 14, 2022 for a limited audience before receiving a wider distribution two weeks later on October 28. In a change of plans, Sony Pictures’ Devotion will now hit theaters this year on November 23, just in time for Thanksgiving weekend.
