The new Joey Badass album 2000 has officially launched
After a month’s delay, the new Joey Badass album 2000 has finally dropped and is streamable on both Spotify and Apple Music. 2000 is the Brooklyn rapper’s third studio LP.
2000 is the 14-track follow-up to Joey’s 2012 mixtape 1999 and includes features from J.I.D., Capella Grey, Westside Gunn, Chris Brown, Larry June, and Diddy. At the 2022 BET Awards, Joey spoke with Vibe and gave some insight into his new album while also reflecting on the previous ten years.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Joey. “It’s funny that you say 10 years because 10 years ago I got nominated for my first award at the BET awards, for best mixtape for 1999. 10 years later, we here. It’s my first time on the carpet, my first time at the award show actually. I’m grateful to be here.”
Originally scheduled to release on June 17, the new Joey Badass album 2000 had to be postponed due to complications of clearing samples on the album that were beyond Joey’s control. This forced the rapper to reschedule the release to July 22. In hindsight, the delay may even help him gain more traction as he celebrates the 10th anniversary of his debut mixtape.
“On the new album 2000, what should be expected is that classic Joey sound, you know what I’m saying? That authentic Joey. Everything that you want out of Joey Badass, you’re going to get from this project right here. I’m excited for this.”
Joey will spend the rest of July visiting San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, and Santa Ana before wrapping up in Los Angeles as part of his North American “1999-2000 Tour” this summer with fellow New Yorker Capella Grey. Take a listen to the new Joey Badass album 2000 below.
