Michelle Buteau stars in the Survival of the Thickest Netflix comedy series
Created and executive produced by Michelle Buteau, the Survival of the Thickest Netflix comedy series is set for a summer release along with some great laughs. Netflix recently revealed the show’s very first teaser trailer, which looks to include some celebrity cameos!
If you’re wondering why this series’ name seems similar, it’s because you’ve presumably read Buteau’s collection of essays by the same name. The forthcoming Netflix original series is based on these same works.
The Survival of the Thickest Netflix comedy series follows Mavis Beaumont who is Black, plus-sized, and single. Mavis “unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life as a struggling stylist,” per the show’s official synopsis. “She’s determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a body positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss.”
Buteau was the first cast member to be announced for the show as she portrays the series’ lead character. The following actors to join the cast were Tone Bell and Tasha Smith. Smith plays Marley, a self-made millionaire in her early 50s, and Bell is Khalil, Mavis’s best friend since high school. Liza Treyger, Anissa Felix, Garcelle Beauvais, Taylor Selé, Anthony Michael Lopez, Marouane Zottie, Allan K. Washington and Sarah Cooper are also included in the cast.
Buteau, along with Danielle Sanchez-Witzel who will serve as the showrunner, created the Netflix series. Sanchez-Witze. In addition, Ravi Nandan, and Alli Reich are also on board as executive producers.
Running about 25 minutes each, the Survival of the Thickest Netflix comedy series has an eight-episode order and will launch on July 13.
