The GoPro Hero 10 Black Is Here

Just announced, the GoPro Hero 10 Black is official

The GoPro Hero 10 Black was introduced today and it includes 5.3K resolution video at 60 frames per second, 23 megapixel images, and packs in a new CPU into a smaller and more intuitive action camera than the Hero 9. This new processor, the GP2, also speeds up and improves the responsiveness of the GoPro Hero 10 Black.

In comparison to the previous generation Hero 9, the GoPro Hero 10 Black will be able to shoot twice the frame rate than its predecessor at higher resolutions. Aside from the 5.3K@60, the device will allow 4K120 and 2.7K240. Thanks to the GP2 and GoPro’s custom chips, the company has stayed in competition with the smartphone market and custom chip manufacturers such as Google and Apple.

To perform enhanced local tone mapping and 3D noise reduction, the GP2 employs more advanced algorithms. As a result, even in low-light circumstances, footage looks cleaner out of the camera and requires less time in post-production editing. It also works alongside the GoPro Hero 10 Black HyperSmooth 4.0, its in-camera stabilization feature, and the tilt limit of the Horizon Leveling feature which has been increased from 27 degrees to 45 degrees.

Another improvement of the Hero 10 Black is the new lens cover that is made of hydrophobic-watershedding glass. GoPro states the lens cover is more scratch-resistant and will reduce ghosting. The front LCD also has higher frame rates than the Hero 9 Black and the start up boot times are faster overall.

When it comes to pricing, GoPro provides somewhat of a discount when purchasing their subscription service. The GoPro Hero 10 Black costs $499 in the United States, but drops to $399 after a GoPro.com subscription, which costs $4.99 a month or $49.99 per year. The subscription also provides access to GoPro’s camera repair program for damaged cameras.

This new generation of GoPro brings a great bump in technology with a number of improved features. At $449, we might not advise that it’s a necessary upgrade from last generation’s model but there is no better time for newcomers to pick one up as we near the holiday season.
