Since I Have A Lover is 6LACK’s first album in five years
After a five-year hiatus, rapper 6LACK has released Since I Have A Lover, his third studio album. Well known for his smooth transitions and lyrics, the album departs from what we’ve been accustomed to hearing from the Atlanta native.
A large portion of the new 6LACK album Since I Have A Lover is still ardent and amorous as the rapper stays true to lonely and isolating love themes. “The album is a collection of songs about love, and learning through the pains that come with growth,” says 6LACK. “It’s a reminder that regardless of the outcome, choosing to better yourself, and sharing that experience with the people around you, has a lasting effect.”
The 19-track, hour-long album features the singles “Fatal Attraction,” “Talkback,” and “Rent Free” and has just two guest appearances from QUIN on “wunna dem” and Don Toliver on “Temporary”. It’s the artist’s first full-length studio project since 2018’s gold-selling album East Atlanta Love Letter, which features J.Cole on the Grammy-nominated track “Pretty Little Fears”.
6LACK previously described the lead track “cold feet” as “the highs of having a healthy love, compressed into song format. It’s a note to self, that I’m no longer who I was or where I was, and that there’s a bigger purpose starting to reveal itself in the things I create. We are simply pushing love, because it’s needed. The verses are short and serve as a moment of acknowledgment for how I feel, and the chorus is less of a lyric and more of a feeling. It’s an exhale, it’s relief, it’s trust, it’s happiness, it’s surreal.”
