Philadelphia native Tierra Whack releases World Wide Whack
Six years has passed since Tierra Whack’s 2018 mixtape, and now the highly anticipated World Wide Whack LP has launched across all streaming services. The Tierra Whack debut album displays the artist’s ability to change her unending creativity throughout 15 tracks.
So far in her young career, Tierra Whack has dropped three short but intriguing EPs. Although she has been compared to hip-hop icons and has been rated as a XXL Freshman, she hasn’t created enough material for her to be considered a star. Now with the Tierra Whack World Wide Whack LP, she entertains us with an eclectic arrangement of genres from jazz funk to R&B and makes a significant mark in the industry.
In the album’s cover art and music videos (particularly the one for the lead single “Shower Song”), Tierra can be seen playing an alter ego. She is known for her unique voice and ability to change her sound on the fly with ease. The track “Ms. Behave” reminds us of the legendary Missy Elliot, with a beat that has us back track to 2003’s “Pass The Dutch”.
Tierra simply alternates sounds based on the vibe. She uses her lively flow to express her feelings on “X”, which talks about her ex-partner. “Shower Song” reminds us of a nostalgic children’s TV show. Tierra is able to channel her inner SZA or Kendrick depending on the soundscape selected on each piece.
On a serious note, Tierra covers mental health and internal conflict throughout World Wide Whack. The remarkable record, which took more than six years to complete, serves as a reminder that things are not always as happy and carefree as they would appear.
