HBO has announced the release date for the DMX Documentary
DMX: Don’t Try To Understand is the upcoming HBO DMX Documentary created by Bill Simmons and directed by Christopher Frierson and Clark Slater. As part of the Music Box series, the documentary of the late rapper DMX (Earl Simmons) will debut on HBO and HBO Max on Thursday, November 25 at 8:00PM ET/PT.
HBO’s Music Box series has featured stories of the infamous Woodstock 99’ music festival and Alanis Morisette’s 1995 album “Jagged Little Pill” that has gone 16× Platinum since its launch. The story of Don’t Try to Understand covers DMX’s life in 2019 after he is released after a Federal prison sentence for tax evasion. DMX works to resurrect his music career while aiming to reestablish contact with family and fans as both a father and an artist.
Traveling with DMX, footage was taken from his 2019 comeback tour “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot” and showcased in the DMX documentary. The content remains focused on DMX’s current situation, including his fight with addiction and the consequences of an abusive past. It also covers his faith and beliefs, his devotion to his fan base, and his desire to restore connections with his children along with efforts to help other troubled adolescents.
In his hometown of Yonkers, New York, DMX is seen spending time with friends yet battling his drug addiction as we get a direct point of view of how it affects his surroundings. It is an honest, deep, and somber behind the scenes look into Earl Simmons’ life off stage.
