The DJ Premier Hip-Hop 50 Volume 1 celebrates a half century of music and culture
Out today, the new DJ Premier Hip-Hop 50 Volume 1 EP launched across Apple Music and Spotify. The five-track extended play is the first of ten EPs that Mass Appeal Records will release to commemorate the forthcoming 50th anniversary of hip-hop.
Produced by DJ Premier, one of most legendary hip-hop producers of all time, DJ Premier Hip-Hop 50 Volume 1 features some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Lil Wayne, Joey Badass, Nas, Run the Jewels, Slick Rick, Remy Ma, and Rapsody. The Universal Hip Hop Museum, which is scheduled to open in 2024, is one of the many philanthropic organizations that will receive a percentage of the proceeds from the Hip Hop 50 series.
“It’s an honor to kick off this iconic Hip Hop 50 music program,” said DJ Premier in a statement. “Hip-Hop continues to inspire fans across the globe and it’s incredible to think of what the next 50 years will bring.”
Volume 1 will be the first release of Mass Appeal’s 10-part series, The Soundtrack. Following its release, nine additional EPs are set to launch that’ll feature tracks produced by Swizz Beatz, Mike Will Made It, Hit-Boy, Mustard, The-Dream, No I.D., Take a Daytrip, and Tainy.
“Bringing together some of the biggest names in Hip-Hop, this project will further solidify the #HipHop50 movement as it not only captures 50 years of culture but will also honor some of the latest and greatest to do it,” stated Mass Appeal. “From Park Jams to Festival stages, this partnership will create moments that will bring together the voices that turned Hip-Hop into a way of life.”
